Veggie beds, without the concrete
A tired corner became a proper productive patch. Permanent concrete-and-steel beds would have eaten the budget, so we fitted ready-made raised beds at a comfortable working height, filled them with fresh soil and gave the whole area a clean-out. The old tin herb planter was flipped into a potting bench with storage underneath, and the space now hums with birds and bees.
Blank canvas, built around the retaining walls
A new home with nothing around it but dirt, turned into layered outdoor living. Timber sleeper retaining walls on steel posts hold the levels, a merbau deck extension on steel framing meets the door, and charcoal pavers with stone run through the garden. Beds on top of the walls let plants cascade down, and drainage keeps the yard from flooding. We've added shots of how it has aged since.
Onyx walkway and a step up
The retaining wall was already there, so the job was to make it useful. We paved the steps, laid a clean onyx paver walkway to the house and etched a steel-edged garden bed along the side, ready for the owners to plant at their own pace.
From a phone call to a pergola
Every makeover starts the same way: a call, a walk around the yard and an honest chat about budget. This is where that conversation ended up. A bare gravel side yard now has a timber pergola over a glossy paved area, a place worth sitting in instead of walking past.
Stage two: from nothingness to a paved retreat
A side-of-house gap with a big drop to the boundary fence became a full paved extension. A timber edge handles the safety issue and doubles as a frame for the charcoal pavers, quick fence extensions add privacy, and the outer fences got timber trim and fresh paint. Retaining wall refurb, planting, mulch, a custom letterbox, a feature screen and bird baths round it out.
Home, built outdoors
Home is the place you switch off. A few of the spots we've helped people make for exactly that: rock-edged ponds with a fountain, a covered bar area with stools, timber steps lit for the evening, a pergola waiting for climbers and a gate that opens without a fight.
A retaining wall that earns its keep
A needed structural fix with a bonus. Steel posts and timber sleepers, lined with plastic, with agg drains behind and fresh soil on top, hold back the slope. It's clean and neat, ready to be a flat grass pad today or topped with a garden bed whenever the owners like.
The sanctuary spot
Dead space doesn't have to stay dead. A pergola and a clean run of paving turned an unused patch beside the shed into somewhere to land. All it needs now is chunky pots, a lounge chair and a few plants, just in time for spring.
Three jobs, two weeks
Not every job is a glamorous transformation. One fortnight covered a new boundary fence, drainage so the yard stops flooding, and a turning circle ringed with huge feature rocks. The trench shot catches the mini excavator mid-job: the unglamorous work that keeps a home standing.
Tired to fresh
A tired yard became a space that is finally the owners'. Relaid bricks edge a new bed of black mulch and flowering plants, and an old wire-doored shed and spa area opened up into a pergola. Charcoal paving and blue rocks make the sitting area, a Colourbond fence with a custom gate separates the spaces, and ferns, hanging baskets and lanterns finish it off.
A two-stage brick and timber makeover
Done in two stages. Stage one rebuilt the side access with warm red brick paving, brick steps with a handrail and timber sleeper walls. Stage two moved to the courtyard: crazy-paved natural stone around a fire pit, with a rock-lined garden beyond.
